Just Progress is produced by Syris Valentine

Syris Valentine is a writer who explores social justice and the climate crisis through essays, fiction, and journalism.

Born and raised in Washington State, Syris attended Seattle’s University of Washington where he studied Earth and Space Sciences, and began to dip his toes into activism and community organizing.

After graduating, Syris jumped from the world of space tech into communty-focused green development and spent three years as Co-Chair of Seattle’s Green New Deal Oversight Board before settling into a career as a professional writer.

All of these prior experiences meld in their writing as they traverse the intersections of politics, economy, ecology, and technology, with a compass always pointing toward justice.

Now, as a journalist, Syris’s work has been published in The Atlantic, Scientific American, Grist, YES! Magazine, The South Seattle Emerald, and others. Most recently, Syris served as Grist Magazine’s Climate Solutions Reporting Fellow.

He is currently developing the proposal for a non-fiction book that would explore the efforts and experiments underway to imagine, invent, and implement new economic systems that, instead of ravaging our world the way capitalism has, allows humanity to seek harmony with the planet.
